Despite its title, this is hardly an introductory book. One needs not only a firm grasp of logic, mathematics and computer science to work with this text, but also enough experience to appreciate the application of what's contained. This book is frequently seen as the premiere book on algorithms, and not undeservedly so; with the exception of the broader-scope TAoCP, there aren't any algorithm books which compare. This is both an analytic text and a catalog; one can both learn how algorithms work and a surprisingly complete list of tools to work with. This is an essential component of any programmer's reference catalog, regardless of their home language.
